The Tattoo was conceived in its present form and first performed in 1950. Today, with its unique blend of music, ceremony, entertainment and theatre, it is one of the world’s greatest shows. It takes place during the Edinburgh Festival and is set against the amazing backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. The DVD features a host of acts from around the world, including The Grenadier Guards Band, The Coldstream Guards Band, The New Zealand Army Band, The Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes (USA), The Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas, The Army Physical Training Corps, The Royal Jordanian Armed Forces Contingent and The Representative Band of the Border Guard of the Republic of Poland, as well as the Massed Pipes and Drums and The Lone Piper. Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2012 DVD $43.98 Filmed live, this is the full 90-minute 2012 show from the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade that draws together a host of creative talent from four continents to pay a sparkling tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee and the Year of Creative Scotland. A strong Commonwealth contribution includes pipe bands and performers from Australia, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand. The line-up of nearly 1,000 performers includes hundreds of pipers, drummers, singers, dancers and musicians: the Massed Pipes and Drums, HM The King’s Guard Band and Drill Team from Norway, The Band of the Australian Defence Force, Queen Victoria School, U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band and the thrilling Massed Military Bands, as well as one of the most sensational percussion groups – Switzerland’s Top Secret Drum Corps. Her Majesty The Queen’s accession to the throne is the principal theme of this 62nd Tattoo and the climax of the evening is an orchestral tribute to Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation in 1953.
